Montclair State University & Teach Asian American Stories present an evening with anti-bias and anti-racist educator and researcher Tony DelaRosa, author of "Teaching the Invisible Race," in conversation with Dr. Sumi Hagiwara. In Teaching the Invisible Race, anti-bias and anti-racist educator and researcher Tony delivers an insightful and hands-on treatment of how to embody a pro-Asian American lens in your classroom while combating anti-Asian hate in your school. This event is for educators, school administrators, K-12 school leaders, and community members with an interest in advancing social justice in the Asian American context. - Copies of the book will be gifted to the first 50 attendees. - Light bites and refreshments. - Professional Development hours awarded. For more information, please email roslyne@teachasianamericanstories.org. ***** About Tony DelaRosa (he/siya) is an award-winning Filipino American Anti-Bias & Anti-Racist Educator, Motivational Speaker, Spoken Word Poet, Racial Equity Strategist, and Researcher. He holds a BA in Asian Studies at the University of Cincinnati, a M.Ed with a focus on Arts Education and Non-Profit Management from Harvard University, and is currently pursuing his PhD in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin Madison as a Education Graduate Research Scholar. Sumi Hagiwara is the Acting Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Çollege for Education and Engaged Learning at Montclair State University. She teaches and researches equity, diversity, culture, and early childhood/elementary science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Dr. Hagiwara is co-editor of Change Agents in Science Education to advance the discourse on change agency using science across settings.
